A Penny for My Birthday!

It was a bright sunny day, and it was my birthday. I glanced over with a ear-to- ear smile at my big blue and white chocolate cake and the blue and white balloons. I set up the cake with big numbers, 10, on the top and twirled the blue and white streamers on the table. I’d planned on having a pool party because it was summertime. I turned my head with a big smile and looked at the big crystal clear blue pool. I taped the strings of the blue and white balloons around the pool. Afterwards, I colored the water blue, too. Then, I waited for the guests to come.

All my friends from school came in no time. They excitedly ran to the backyard to play in the pool and immediately dove in! They made a massive splash - big enough to drench me! I was beaming as I played Marco Polo with my friends while we wiped the perspiration off our foreheads. The sound of loud laughter filled the air as I cracked a joke.

Finally, it was time to cut the cake! The happy birthday song echoed as I blew out the candles and cut my cake. Everyone played in the water and ate the cake. Everyone loved the cake and came back for more. While some people ate yummy cake, others got cold and gross water in their mouth while swimming. The cake smelled delicious, but the chlorine smelled odd. This was, by far, my best birthday ever, until it started raining and loud, booming lightning struck.

Everyone ran inside for shelter. I was trying to make everyone calm down. With that many people at the party, it was making the house humid and the floors and carpets soggy. The carpet was drenched in water. The squishing sound of people walking on it drove me crazy. All the food was soon done.Everyone was sighing and about to head home, until the sun came out! Everyone rushed back into the pool! When the pool party was over, I plugged the vacuum in the outlet and started vacuuming up all the water.

After I vacuumed the water, I went to the grocery store and got food to restock my house. When I got home, I got to open all my presents! All of the gifts were very pleasing, but my grandpa gave me one that caught my eye. A penny from 1878! It was old and rusty and, when you ran your nail over it, it made a scratching sound. He said, “It’s the best penny from my whole collection!” I was so happy! Grandpa has over 2000 pennies! This was his best penny from over 2000 so I knew it must be very valuable.

I safely tucked the penny away in my collection and went to sleep. When I woke up, I wanted to see my coin again. When I opened my collection, the penny wasn’t there! I ran around the house almost in tears looking for the penny. Sadly, I woke up my cat, Muffins, and picked her up to bring her to the food bowl. When I looked at the cat bed, I noticed a small, old, rusty, bronze thing in the middle of the bed. I picked it up and it was my penny! I playfully scolded my cat, and safely tucked the penny back in the collection, in a high place, so Muffins couldn’t reach it.
